Frequently Asked Questions
What is a fall alarm pad or bed alarm pad, and which types does Warmcare offer?
A fall alarm pad, also called a bed alarm pad or bed exit alarm, is a pressure-sensing pad placed on a bed or chair that alerts staff when a resident gets up. Warmcare's DetectPro range includes wireless and wired bed pressure pads, wheelchair and chair pads, and an under-mattress pad, working with an alarm unit or the Central Monitoring Platform. The pads support a facility's fall management and cannot prevent every fall.
How do bed and chair sensor pads help prevent falls?
DetectPro sensor pads alert staff when a resident leaves a bed or seat, prompting them to check and offer assistance. Bed and chair pads respond to pressure changes and support care situations where exit alerts are needed. They form part of a facility’s fall management arrangements, alongside individual care plans and regular checks, and cannot prevent every fall.
What's the difference between wireless and wired pressure pads?
Wireless pressure pads transmit alerts wirelessly, while wired pads connect to their associated alarm equipment by cable. DetectPro offers both options for bed or chair exit alerts. Wireless options reduce connecting cables at the sensor location; wired options require cable placement. The choice depends on the bed or chair layout, associated equipment and site reception.
What is an under-mattress pad, and when should we use one?
An under-mattress pad sits beneath the mattress and provides bed-exit alerts, suiting facilities that prefer this sensor placement. DetectPro includes this option alongside bed and chair pressure pads. Selection needs to take the existing bed and mattress into account, with installation and testing on the actual bed to check sensor operation.
Will the sensors disturb the resident's sleep or comfort?
Sleep and comfort depend on pad placement, alert arrangements and the individual resident’s needs. DetectPro offers bed, chair and under-mattress pads for different placements, with the under-mattress model sitting beneath the mattress. A demonstration lets you explore sensor placement and associated alarm equipment, and discuss a setup suited to residents’ sleeping habits and care needs.
